Gen Z, millennials are most likely to buy travel insurance products

Most Millennials were between the ages of 5 and 20 when the 9/11 terrorist attacks shook the nation, and many were old enough to comprehend the historical significance of that moment, while most members of Gen Z have little or no memory of the event. Millennials also grew up in the shadow of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which sharpened broader views of the parties and contributed to the intense political polarization that shapes the current political environment. And most Millennials were between 12 and 27 during the 2008 election, where the force of the youth vote became part of the political conversation and helped elect the first black president.

But he felt like, and a lot of other Americans from marginalized communities felt like, it just provided a more accessible financial system for them. And there’s other people from other groups that we had spoken with for this story as well, whether that were black Americans or people that were part of the LGBTQ community. They all agreed in a large part that a large number of institutions, they just didn’t feel welcomed by those kind of traditional corners of the market.

Smaller shares of Gen Xers (39%), Boomers (36%) and those in the Silent Generation (32%) say the same. Gen Zers generally have strong values related to racial justice and sustainability. So for example, in a workplace an older person might take a young newbie under their wing in order to teach them what they know and give them a leg up in the organisation. In other words, you wouldn’t treat a 60-year-old the same way would a teenager, so having these cohorts gives us a rough idea of what different age groups might want and need. The same goes for cohorts, although as the stereotypes are given more prominence in the media, she notes that people in the different groups can “pigeon hole themselves into aligning themselves with those characteristics”. Perhaps because they are more likely to be engaged in educational endeavors, Gen Zers are less likely to be working than previous generations when they were teens and young adults. Only 18% of Gen Z teens (ages 15 to 17) were employed in 2018, compared with 27% of Millennial teens in 2002 and 41% of Gen Xers in 1986.
